If you’re bored of flopping on a beach, head North. This is cruising in high-definition. The scenery is dramatic—think snow-capped peaks, cascading waterfalls, and cities that look like they’ve been plucked from a fairytale.
The Destinations: The Norwegian Fjords are the headliner, but don’t forget the Baltic Capitals (Tallinn, Stockholm, Helsinki) or the volcanic wonders of Iceland.
Cruise Lines: Royal Caribbean and P&O are experts here (smaller ships get further inland). Ambassador and NCL are also fantastic options.
Best Bits: Sailing Geirangerfjord (UNESCO protected), walking the medieval walls of Tallinn, or soaking in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland.
Best Time to Go: May to August for the Midnight Sun (24hr daylight). October to March if you want to hunt the Northern Lights.
